Microdermabrasion: Improving Skin, One Imperfection at a Time

Skin resurfacing treatments have become a popular method to reverse many of the visible effects of aging. Microdermabrasion is a fairly gentle procedure designed to correct minor imperfections on the face, neck and hands, revealing smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin.

Patients may want to consider this technique to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, brighten skin tone and improve discoloration, reduce age spots and blackheads, treat acne and the scars it often leaves behind. It sloughs dead skin and helps skin care products to work more effectively.

During the microdermabrasion process, which typically lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, the area of focus is exfoliated by using a minimally invasive instrument. This helps to remove the thicker, uneven outer layer. The remnants are then vacuumed away, leaving behind a much-improved surface.

IMPROVEMENTS ARE NOTICEABLE IMMEDIATELY, ALTHOUGH A SERIES OF MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENTS MAY BE PREFERRED AS PART OF AN ONGOING MAINTENANCE PLAN.

An effective skin care regimen is recommended following this procedure in order to achieve optimal results. Skin will be more sensitive to sun damage, and it will be necessary to properly protect the treated areas going forward as well.

Unlike some other resurfacing treatments, microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types. Side effects are mild and can include slight redness, which will subside in a few hours. No down time is required.

POPULAR TYPES OF MICRODERMABRASION

PARISIAN PEEL MICRODERMABRASION

Parisian Peel Microdermabrasion uses an airflow of tiny crystals combined with mild suction to exfoliate dead skin cells from the epidermis. This process stimulates your natural collagen, while simultaneously re-introducing oxygen into your skin, paving the way for a younger-looking complexion. Collagen is a protein present in abundance during youth, which helps skin appear taut and smooth. This production declines with age, resulting in a looser, uneven layer.

ULTRA C MICRODERMABRASION

In conjunction with Vitamin C, Ultra C Microdermabrasion uses ultrasound to penetrate the layers of the skin. This process is specially designed to target long-term damage typically sustained from sun exposure, poor diet, smoking and daily stress elements, all of which can trigger the release of “free radicals” that contribute to the premature aging of the skin. The addition of the Vitamin C, a naturally super-charged antioxidant, supports the skin’s natural metabolism.
