Liposuction – Removing Excess Fat
Liposuction, or lipoplasty, permanently removes fat often unresponsive to diet and exercise. Appropriate for most parts of the body, liposuction is commonly applied to multiple areas during treatment. At our Long Island plastic surgery facility we perform liposuction procedures that are effective in reducing love handles, saddlebags, a double chin, thickened waistlines and other unsightly fatty tissue. Liposuction results in a slimmer, better-proportioned shape to create a more beautiful body.
Reasons to Consider Liposuction
- Eliminate fat from any of the following areas:
- Chin and Neckline
- Back
- Upper Arms
- Stomach and Waistline
- Hips and Buttocks
- Thighs and Knees
- Create a better-proportioned figure
Liposuction Procedure
Your liposuction will be performed under either general or local anesthesia at our Long Island plastic surgery facility. A minor incision is made and a narrow tube or cannula is inserted beneath the skin to remove fatty tissue by vacuum. Depending upon extent, number of areas treated and the amount of tissue removed, the procedure may last up to two hours. Our facility is well equipped to make your recovery as comfortable as possible.
There are various liposuction procedures from which to choose and there have been recent advancements in new technologies. Techniques and procedures vary and are best decided upon by you and your doctor during consultation.
Preparation & Post Operative Care For Liposuction
All patients experience a degree of anxiety prior to surgery. It’s only natural. The most important preparation you can do is to ask any question, of anyone, at any time. Knowledge and confidence go hand-in-hand.
Before surgery, you will be provided detailed information on how to prepare. Specific to procedure and patient, the doctor’s advice helps your body get ready for change. It is very important to follow your prep-regimen; it’s the foundation to a successful outcome.
Post Operative Care and Recovery
Recovery time depends upon on the extent of tissue removed. A support garment may be needed for several weeks after the surgery. Patients occasionally report minor pain which is effectively treated with oral medication.
